Alanya

According to legend, a few centuries before our era, Alania became the Promised Land for the Greek settlers. During its long and eventful history, one of the southern and sunniest cities in the Turkish Mediterranean has managed to visit the base of the ruthless Cilician pirates and a paradise for the famous pair of lovers of the past - the Roman general Anthony and the beautiful Egyptian queen Cleopatra.

The city was an important center of Christianity during the Byzantine era and the second shipyard of the Seljuk state. Most of the historical sights of the city belong to the Middle Ages - the Red Tower, Suleymaniye Mosque, Tersane Shipyard and Ehmedek Fortress.

In the XX century, Alanya turned into one of the most popular resorts in Turkey - a land where the sun laughs. Now it is a large seaport with a population of over 100,000 inhabitants. This number triples during the 9-month holiday season. In addition to Alania itself, the neighboring villages of Oba, Tosmur, Mahmutlar, Kargicak, Konakli, Avsallar, Okurcalar and Incekum are included in a single recreation area.

The central beaches of Alanya itself are mostly sandy, with a gentle, gently sloping entrance to the sea. The most famous of these is Cleopatra Beach, a coastal strip with many restaurants and water activities. The hotels in the resort operate on the All Inclusive and Extra All Inclusive systems. For guests wishing to change from the standard buffet to traditional oriental cuisine, local and European restaurants are open. Various types of Turkish pastries, vegetable salads and meat delicacies - kebab, dolma, kefte - are especially popular. The average bill for a dinner for two is about $ 25.

Alanya has many places for great shopping and cultural life. Many festivals take place here every year. History lovers will be interested in visiting the archaeological museum, seeing the well-preserved Seljuk shipyard of Tersane, exploring the ruins of a Byzantine church in the inner fortress of Ich Kale and viewing the symbol of the city - the Red Tower. Those who prefer natural beauty will enjoy relaxing in the Damlatash cave, a picnic in the Dim Chai river valley and swimming in the waterfalls of the Sapadere canyon. Young people will love foam and themed parties in Alanya's hangout places, and children will enjoy a fascinating show of dolphins and fur seals in the dolphinarium and roller coasters in three water parks in the city. You can get around the resort by taxis, bicycles and public transport.
